…Rivera and Frida Kahlo Museums Trust. The Anahuacalli. A legacy for the future Fascinated by pre-Columbian civilizations, Rivera amassed a collection of over 50,000 pieces of Mesoamerican art. This admiration gave rise to his utopian vision: the City of the Arts. There, Diego would house his pre-Hispanic collection and bring together the indigenous past with the future of Mexican art. Before construction began in 1942, Diego Rivera envisioned the Anahuacalli as a space that would integrate all artistic disciplines: a creative laboratory that respected the environment and stood as a center for artistic and cultural exchange. Rivera conceived art as a living force close to the people, present in their traditions and in their daily life. Although he died before seeing his dream realized, his daughter —the architect Ruth Rivera— and his friend, the artist and also architect Juan O’Gorman, finished the work. Diego Rivera's creative and visionary universe is condensed in the Anahuacalli. Plans, sketches, photographs, and archaeological pieces notn only reveal the museum's origins—born from volcanic stone—but also the philosophy behind its conception. Thus, in the Anahuacalli, architecture takes on a symbolic and ceremonial dimension. It is a living work that continues to transmit Rivera's ideal: to preserve the past to inspire the art of new generations. #exploreIMAS #IMASartist
