Learn about the cochineal insect and the carmine pigment that has been used throughout history to create art from the Renaissance to Indigenous textiles and more. Participants will use cochineal insects to make their own paint pigment and experiment with other organic materials to create different colors as they fabricate their Insecta-inspired work of art.

Curious Crawlers at IMAS January 28, 2026 | FREE Admission Crawl into IMAS and explore the fascinating world of bugs during Curious Crawlers, part of our Young Adventurers program for children ages 1–6 with an accompanying adult. Curious Crawlers at IMAS January 28, 2026 | FREE Admission Crawl into IMAS and explore the fascinating world of bugs during Curious Crawlers, part of our Young Adventurers program for children ages 1–6 with an accompanying adult. Cochineal Pigment Painting Saturday, December 13, 2025 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. $25 | $20 IMAS Members https://sales.theimasonline.org/PatronEducation.aspx?pid=2210 Learn about the cochineal insect and the carmine pigment that has been used throughout history to create art from the Renaissance to Indigenous textiles and more. Participants will use cochineal insects to make their own paint pigment and experiment with other organic materials to create different colors as they fabricate their Insecta-inspired work of art. This workshop includes a tour of the Insecta: Small Wonders exhibit by Gabriel Rodriguez. Museum admission included with workshop registration. Advanced registration is encouraged due to limited capacity.
