In this talk, Heep will highlight several species connected to Runyon’s work, weaving together ecological insight, historical context, and personal anecdotes gathered from decades of studying and growing native plants. 🌿Mike Heep has been at the forefront of native plant conservation in the Rio Grande Valley since the 1980s. On Wednesday, December 10th, 2025, our team here at Casa de Palmas, Trademark Collection by Wyndham, had the most heart-warming experience working together to support children in our Rio Grande Valley community. We collected hundreds of toys for the wonderful children at Casa Mami Orphanage, the Vannie Cook Children’s Cancer Clinic, and Proyecto Desarrollo Humano. Thanks to these incredible organizations, many deserving children will now receive a special gift this Christmas. It was our pleasure and privilege to join with our community partners—including Debi Lou Modeling Academy—to give back to our neighbors and local families in need.
